Monsoons can bring joy with their refreshing rains, but they can also present challenges, especially in areas with heavy rainfall. To face the monsoon blues and move on without any hazards, consider these tips:

  1. Stay Informed: Keep track of weather forecasts and advisories from local authorities. This will help you stay prepared for any severe weather conditions and potential hazards.
  2. Avoid Flooded Areas: Do not venture into flooded areas, whether on foot or in a vehicle. Floodwaters can be deceptive and dangerous. Turn around and find an alternate route.
  3. Keep Emergency Supplies: Have essential emergency supplies ready, including a flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, non-perishable food, bottled water, and important documents in a waterproof container.
  4. Inspect Your Home: Check your home for any leaks or weak spots that could lead to water seepage. Make necessary repairs and ensure your roof and gutters are in good condition.
  5. Use Mosquito Repellent: With increased rainfall, mosquitoes become more prevalent. Protect yourself from mosquito-borne diseases by using repellents and mosquito nets.
  6. Avoid Stagnant Water: Remove any stagnant water near your home as it can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Keep your surroundings clean and dry.
  7. Use Umbrellas and Rain Gear: Invest in a good quality umbrella and raincoat to protect yourself from heavy rain. This will also prevent you from getting soaked and falling ill.
  8. Be Cautious on Roads: Drive carefully during heavy rainfall as roads may become slippery. Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you and avoid rash driving.
  9. Public Transportation: If possible, use public transportation during heavy rains to avoid getting stuck in traffic or facing potential road hazards.
  10. Emergency Contacts: Keep a list of emergency contact numbers readily available, including local authorities, hospitals, and disaster response agencies.
  11. Avoid Electrical Hazards: Keep electrical appliances away from water sources to prevent electrical shocks. If flooding occurs, turn off the main power supply to your home.
  12. Check on Vulnerable People: If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbors or relatives, check on them during heavy rains to ensure their safety and well-being.
  13. Stay Away from Water Bodies: Avoid swimming or boating in swollen rivers or water bodies during monsoons, as currents can be strong and unpredictable.
  14. Stay Hydrated: While it’s essential to be cautious during monsoons, don’t forget to drink enough water to stay hydrated, even if the weather is cooler.

By following these precautions, you can minimize the hazards associated with the monsoon season and enjoy the beauty of the rains while staying safe and healthy.

Water is the sign of beginning of life.  According to most of the evolution theories it is believed that life on earth started with water. Our own planet Earth area is covered with 71% of water.

But are you aware of the fact that 97% of the earth’s water is found in the oceans (too salty for drinking and growing crops). That means we cannot use the 97% of water. Only 3% of the earth’s water is fresh water. Out of 3% of fresh water 2.5% is again locked up as glaciers, polar ice caps, atmosphere, and soil.

That means we have only 0.5% of the earth’s water available as fresh water
